Last week I shared with you PASSIONATELY how I felt that I had been keeping this topic under wraps.
That I had been dancing around it not going directly to the topic and digging into it.
This week we start to really dig into and unpack the topic of TRAUMA and what I call a roadmap to recovery.
What exactly is TRAUMA?
We often think that Trauma has to be a SINGLE event or a Catastrophic Series of events.
The truth is Yes, a single event can and does cause Trauma, and also often a series of ongoing events that SEEM harmless or small in nature to others, build up over time and cause the body, mind and spirit the same impact as a ONE time Traumatic event.
Peter Levine defines Trauma like this:
“Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittle, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering. It is not a disease it is dis – ease. It is a by-product of an instinctively instigated, altered state of consciousness. We enter this altered state – let us call it “Survival Mode” – when we are unable to successfully defend ourselves, we become stuck in the survival mode. This state of being is designed to be short term and a defensive action however when left untreated or the state is sustained then it begins to form the signs of trauma.”
It doesn’t matter, let me say this again, IT DOESN’T MATTER, if anyone else thinks the event or situation was traumatic TOO many people think you SHOULD just get over it. Why aren’t you over it already?
So YOUR experience is YOURS. You get to have it and YOU know how it has affected you.
Remember that trauma can look a lot of different ways, for example:
Bullying, a car accident, surgeries, broken bones, verbal abuse on any level, physical abuse on any level, intimidation acute or chronic, physical violation of any kind at any age, harassment of any kind at any age, divorce, death, loss at any level can be grief or can escalate to being traumatic depending on how one perceives the loss, and also our own internal dialogue and beliefs can keep us hostage and repeated over and over and over they become that thing that tips the scale and keeps your system in survival mode.
In this series on Trauma, I am going to go over a lot of information and also give you a lot of resources.
It’s not meant to be the tell all and end all to Trauma.
What it IS going to be is a roadmap for you to begin to use to heal and recover from any trauma you have ever had.
MY expertise is in the roadmap. My life has been riddled with HUGE , medium, small and ongoing traumas throughout my life. Having lived through them, survived (the survival mode) thrived and now empowered I know it takes 3 basic things in order to go on the journey from Traumatized to Empowered.
- Be willing to release the trauma
- Be willing to reclaim your voice
- Be willing to take action
These are the things I am going to talk about in the coming weeks and more.
Another step is GREAT resources and Support. NO ONE – I mean NO ONE goes from Traumatized to Empowered alone.
So we will be discussing resources along the way and at the end we will have a go to list for you to use as you begin or continue your own healing journey.
Also with each week I will have an Action Sheet for you to download and answer some simple questions to help you along the way.
These will be used to help YOU plan your steps to recovery and create YOUR roadmap.
And to top off each week I will be highlighting a particular book and or tool that has helped my clients and or myself in the journey along with a highlighted oil or oil blend to support the process as well.
So are you ready for take-off?
You might be thinking why in the WORLD would I want to read and learn about all of this?
BECAUSE my friend – You or a Loved one can use all of this information.
So grab your ticket and join in the journey – we are about to Turn The Tide Of Trauma™!
