When I say fast food what comes to mind?
McDonald’s? Burger King? Take out of any kind? Drive Thru’s? I gained a lot of weight going through drive-thru’s. A L O T. Crammed more food in driving from here to there and focused on my schedule that I would ever want to admit.
Checked OUT is another way to descibe it. Disconnected from my body and what I was doing to it. Drinking 32 oz latte’s vanilla caffinated and smoked. Wow. As I look back now I can see what damage I was doing to my body, my emotions, my life.
Fast forward to today. I still run to and fro. Driving from one place to the next. I take my green smoothie with me every morning for my breakfast. About 20oz of green goodness that fills me up and starts my day with a zing gives me SO much energy. Now this is FAST FOOD.
It takes me about 3mins to make one each morning. It took me awhile to get used to drinking these and really getting in the habit of it. One step at a time, one smoothie at a time, and now I have acquired a taste for them.
That takes care of breakfast for me. I am in a routine now. What about lunch. Its my hardest time of day to coordinate food. If I don’t prepare then I make choices that do not support me AT ALL. I will grab what is easy and close by or at hand and that could be just about anything. THEN, once I have done that, it starts the battle inside.
“What kind of choice was that?” “Wow, that sucks, what were you thinking?”
Can you relate? I am just not willing to beat myself up anymore so what is a girl to do?
I have come to realize what compelled me to drive through all the DRIVE-THRU’S! I love fast food and need to have fast food in my life on a daily basis. I am not going to be able to cook every night. I am not able to always KNOW or REMEMBER to bring my lunch. I am working on creating a new idea and definition of FAST FOOD and I want your help.
My new definition of Friendly Fast Food is:
Food that is not processed, easy to grab, go and eat. Takes less than 5 minutes to make, get and gather. It can be food you buy prepared that fits the same description.
I am opening up this conversation so we can all participate in what is fast food, how can we create it, make it, get it and have it be REAL FOOD? I need to create routine and rituals around grab and go food that fuels my body and my life.
I cannot and will not continue to eat Processed Fast Food. I will eat Friendly Fast Food.
Here is the invitation. I want to know from you what you do to create “fast healthy food” for you? If I struggle with this, my clients struggle with this then I know a lot of us must struggle with this.
LET’s create a list and ideas and share them with each other.
I will start with some of my favs that I have in my frig.
1. Hard boiled eggs
2. Cut up veggies and hummus
3. Fruit that I can grab
4. Green Smoothies
What are some of YOUR fast foods? How do you take are of yourself when you are on the go and need friendly fast food? Let me know and share yours with us. I would love to get a big list together for us.
